I confess to being the guy with the WLI sucks blog. I have a weakness for messing with blog templates, so I moved the blog while it was under construction. I have to admit, I was pretty sure no one would notice! I've had a few diversions myself, lately, but I'll try to get back to it and get it functional soon.

Re Adam's post, I found if you keep at it enough and try different avenues, you can sometimes get past that first low-level of corporate b.s. designed to frustrate you and turn you away.

In particular, my experience involved Gamefly. After complaining to "ESRB," the site that claims to certify Gamefly's privacy policy, I actually received a phone call from Gamefly, saying they wanted to discuss the issue further and attempt to resolve this issue to my satisfaction (this was after I had gotten the brush-off from the low-level people at Gamefly telling me I needed to contact WLI with any issues I might have). Eventually, that led to correspondence with the CEO of Gamefly, Dave Hodess, via email. Around the end of January, I was assured that Mr. Hodess would be conducting a review of the program to see if there is more dissatisfaction out there than he was aware of. I haven't heard anything more about that, since then.

Naturally, that leads me to think that all of the people complaining about this on Adam's site and elsewhere really should follow through with the "partner" companies and let them know of their dissatisfaction, and that they will be losing business. You never know--can't hurt and it might even help.

I also received a postcard from the Illinois Attorney General's Office recently, saying they are reviewing my complaint and would let me know. I'm tempted to update them on what has happened, b/c I sent in that complaint pretty early on, before I know as much as I do now.

I'm also tempted to contact ESRB again and let them know that I won't be trusting any site that I see is "certified" by them.

My main message to these companies is, it may be technically legal, and I don't really know and don't much care (even though, yes, I am an attorney too), but that doesn't mean it's good business--a general principle Mr. Hodess claims to agree with.

If you just can't wait for the WLI sucks blog and want to see my back-and-forth with Gamefly and Mr. Hodess, you can check my January 2006 Archives at my other blog: http://mrschoewe.blogspot.com/
