I&#8217;ve been banging my head against a problem for a couple of weeks now to no avail. <\/p>\n<p> The short story is that my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.smc.com\/index.cfm?sec=Products&#038;pg=Product-Details&#038;prod=255&#038;site=c\" title=\"Welcome to SMC Networks | Choose your region\">SMC 2632W V3<\/a> can see my WLAN perfectly; my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.intel.com\/support\/network\/xc\/wireless\/cc\/index.htm\" title=\"Xircom(R) CWE-1120\/CWE-1130 CreditCard Wireless Ethernet Adapters - Top Technical Issues\">Xircom CWE-1100<\/a><a class=\"webcache\" title=\"Locally Cached Version\" href=\"\/adam\/cache\/technology\/seeking_wifi_guru.txt\/retrieve\/http:\/\/www.intel.com\/support\/network\/xc\/wireless\/cc\/index.htm\">&#183;<\/a> (Cisco 340 chipset) is connecting to a neighboring WLAN which (from the essid) appears to be quite far away. I&#8217;ve tried numerous network scanners (including kismet, airtraf, wavemon) and the local WLAN just doesn&#8217;t show up on the Xircom card. I have two of the Xircom cards, and they both behave identically. My local wireless access point is a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usr.com\/support\/product-template.asp?prod=8054\">USR8054<\/a> (actually a router, but set to run in access point only mode). I&#8217;m using the airo_cs Linux driver for the Xircom card, which seems to communicate fine with the device. <\/p>\n<p> I&#8217;ve posted <a href=\"http:\/\/lists.debian.org\/debian-laptop\/2004\/debian-laptop-200401\/msg00144.html\" title=\"Wireless Woes (Xircom CWE1100\/SMC 2632W)\">a more detailed description of my problem on debian-laptop<\/a><a class=\"webcache\" title=\"Locally Cached Version\" href=\"\/adam\/cache\/technology\/seeking_wifi_guru.txt\/retrieve\/http:\/\/lists.debian.org\/debian-laptop\/2004\/debian-laptop-200401\/msg00144.html\">&#183;<\/a>, as well as <a href=\"http:\/\/zgp.org\/pipermail\/linux-elitists\/2004-January\/008872.html\" title=\"[linux-elitists] WiFi Network Troubleshooting Resources?\">a request for help to linux-elitists<\/a><a class=\"webcache\" title=\"Locally Cached Version\" href=\"\/adam\/cache\/technology\/seeking_wifi_guru.txt\/retrieve\/http:\/\/zgp.org\/pipermail\/linux-elitists\/2004-January\/008872.html\">&#183;<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/groups.google.com\/groups?selm=17d6611a.0401092046.1aa15de4%40posting.google.com&#038;output=gplain\" title=\"Google Search:\">a newsgroup posting on comp.networks<\/a> just for good measure. I also contacted tech support at Xircom (now Intel) and USR and have not received any helpful advice from them. <\/p>\n<p> Please send tips or pointers to other resources! I&#8217;d like to get these cards working and have run out of ideas.
