The discussion concerned the possibility of bridging the divide between the great faith traditions to achieve peace in the world. One of the panelists made a startling observation: after <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2004\/WORLD\/europe\/03\/11\/spain.blasts.scene\/index.html\" title=\"CNN.com - Madrid: 'This is a massacre' - Mar 11, 2004\">last week&#8217;s bombing in Madrid, Spain<\/a><a class=\"webcache\" title=\"Locally Cached Version\" href=\"\/adam\/cache\/politics\/a_moment_of_silence_for_spain.txt\/retrieve\/http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2004\/WORLD\/europe\/03\/11\/spain.blasts.scene\/index.html\">&#183;<\/a>, there was no official national moment of silence or mourning of the tragedy in the United States.<\/p>\n<p> On September 14, 2001, <a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20010914190858\/www.cnn.com\/2001\/WORLD\/europe\/09\/14\/silence.colour\/index.html\" title=\"CNN.com - Silent streets as London remembers - September 14, 2001\">all of Europe observed a three-minute silence to remember the victims of the September 11 attacks<\/a><a class=\"webcache\" title=\"Locally Cached Version\" href=\"\/adam\/cache\/politics\/a_moment_of_silence_for_spain.txt\/retrieve\/http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20010914190858\/www.cnn.com\/2001\/WORLD\/europe\/09\/14\/silence.colour\/index.html\">&#183;<\/a>, as did most of the rest of the world.
